Understanding Performance Metrics
- p50 (median): 50% of requests complete faster than this time. This is the typical user experience.
- p90: 90% of requests complete faster than this time. Shows performance during busier periods.
- p95: 95% of requests complete faster than this time. Reveals performance in most challenging situations.
- p95/p90 ratio: Indicates how much slower the worst 5% of requests are compared to the 90th percentile.
Fast and Consistent
Low response times across all percentiles with minimal variability. Ideal performance pattern.
Slow but Consistent
Higher overall response times but minimal variability. May indicate complex operations but stable systems.
Inconsistent Tail
Good median performance but significant degradation in slowest 5%. Indicates intermittent issues.
Gradually Slower
Gradual increase in response times across percentiles. Balanced performance distribution.
